Graduated in medicine at Torino University, Italy. PhD in biostatistics.
Junior Epidemiologist and then Director at the Piedmont Cancer Registry (1978-2018).
Coordinator of networks for measuring the impact of cancer (incidence, survival, prevalence and mortality) at national and international level. Editor of the Italian quinquennial Report Cancer in Italy, and of the Volume XI of the WHO-IARC compendium Cancer Incidence in Five Continents. Editor of the Italian version of the UICC-TNM staging manual.
Other main research interests: analytical studies on the etiology of Melanoma, Breast cancer, Lymphomas, Kaposi sarcoma, Pleural mesothelioma; on the evaluation of Breast, Cervix and Colon screening programs; on the analysis of costs and performance in cancer registration.
Active in global cooperation in cancer control: member of the Board of Director of the UICC (Union for International Cancer Control) and Past-President of the IACR (International Association of Cancer Registries)
